Schema Therapy
Schema Therapy was developed by Jeffery Young based on his experience in working with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Schema is an approach to therapy that incorporates core attachment needs and how they were met in the therapeutic process. A client’s participation in this approach to therapy includes questionnaires that identify one’s maladaptive coping strategies, modes, experience of parental figures and more. Through the use of imagery, chair work, and other experiential approaches, this process seeks to understand lifelong struggles with attaching to others whether it be partners, family or friends. Schema has been proven to be helpful with individuals who have felt stuck in other approaches to therapy and may be looking to dive deeper into their attachment needs for healing.
